Our family and another stayed at the Wexford Heritage House for two weeks in August 2024. We were looking for a place that would be comfortable, peaceful, and would provide an authentic PEI experience. The home has been beautifully restored and was originally a farmhouse owned by Ron’s ancestors. It is spacious, clean and gave the 7 of us plenty of our own space. The home has a fantastic kitchen to prepare meals in and a beautiful dining room to enjoy them. There is a fire pit in the backyard where we roasted marshmallows in the evenings and watched the Perseid meteor shower. The home overlooks the Northumberland Strait and it is a short walk to a private beach that guests of the Wexford house are welcome to experience. There we waded into the sea, collected sea shells and sat in chairs enjoying the vista. It is a short drive to Cornwall where you can get the groceries you require. We ended up purchasing many items (firewood, eggs, potatoes, home grown vegetables) from the local residents that sell them from their homes. There is a great butcher (MacPhee’s) about a 10 minute drive away that sells locally farmed meats. Their beef steaks were absolutely delicious grilled on the BBQ. MR Seafoods, where bought our fresh seafood is a located a little further away on the way to Charlottetown.
Our kids, ages (11, 13 and 13) enjoyed exploring the potato fields behind the Wexford House, playing the nearby Countryview Golf Course, the Rise & Climb Ropes course in Cornwall and kayaking and digging for clams at Victoria by the Sea. We were fortunate enough to be in Victoria when a lobster boat came in and were able to purchase some to bring home and cook. And yes, there is a big lobster pot at the Wexford house to boil them up in.
It was our family’s first trip to PEI and I can’t image wanting to staying anywhere but Wexford House when we return again. Thank you Ron.
Quite a honey comfortable stay for our family. Laundry off the kitchen was super convenient. Every night we went across the way to go clamming and beach combing. Lots of space to accommodate the grandparents and children. Super appreciative of the large property – space for the children to run and place. Liked the extra touches like outdoor toys/family games. The kitchen had lots of supplies for cooking family dinners. Ron was super prompt in communication, as was Gail.
This was a great location! A beautiful old house located minutes from the water, in the countryside. Also fairly close to a grocery store by car. Very peaceful – lots of green space around the house. Definitely would vacation here again.
Our family would definitely recommend the Wexford Heritage House for a vacation rental in PEI! The house is well appointed with all the amenities to host a large family for a relaxing stay in beautiful PEI. The kids had a lot of fun walking along the beach and playing in the water. The property has a lot space allowing us to play some games with the kids in the front yard. We thought the location in Cumberland allowed for a perfect combination of relaxing days at the house and sight seeing tours to other parts of the island. Our family was very happy with the week we spent at Wexford Heritage House.
This beautiful house was incredibly clean and comfortable. We felt very relaxed there. Lots to do for families right in the area and not a long drive to attractions all over the Island. We loved beach combing at the nearby beach. We enjoyed our vacation so much that we know we will be back!
This property was incredible! It checked off all of our boxes, and even the boxes we didn’t anticipate. I would definitely recommend this property to others, and I would stay there again next time I’m in the area.
We loved the property – short walk to the beach, beautiful yard and home. The home was great for our large group of nine. The home is in a rural location – very quiet and relaxing. The house was clean and well equipped. The book in the home describing the history of the home and owners was very cool. There is a drive (not long) to Charlottetown and other tourist attractions.
Very beautiful & clean. Three generations ages 80 to 25 found it the area very quit & peaceful. Could easily drive to Cavendish area & Charlottetown. Ron kept us well informed.
